Cardross & Ardoch Local Place Plan
Your Vision, Your Voice, Your Village.
Help Shape the future of Cardross & Ardoch today!
Welcome to Cardross & Ardoch Local Place Plan – a Community-Driven Vision for Our Future!
The Cardross & Ardoch Local Place Plan is part of a Scotland-wide initiative empowering communities to lead the way in shaping their local areas. Created by the residents, for the residents, this plan is a unique opportunity for everyone in Cardross, Ardoch and the surrounding area within the boundary of Cardross Community Council to have a direct say in our village's future development, preservation, and growth.
Who is coordinating the Cardross & Ardoch Local Place Plan?
The Cardross & Ardoch Local Place Plan is coordinated by a sub-committee of Cardross Community Council. All activity is reported back and discussed at Cardross Community Council meetings, details here.
What is a Local Place Plan?
The Scottish Government has invited communities to develop Local Place Plans (LPPs) – community-led frameworks that identify local priorities and guide future changes. These plans focus on what matters most to residents, covering areas like land use, environmental conservation, housing, transportation, and public spaces. With the Cardross & Ardoch Local Place Plan, we are actively participating in creating a vibrant, sustainable future for our village.
Why we need a Local Place Plan?
The Cardross & Ardoch Local Place Plan provides an essential framework for aligning local projects with the true needs of the community. While Argyll and Bute Council will consider our LPP in its decision-making, this plan is entirely independent, reflecting only the voices of Cardross residents. It’s our chance to bring forward our ideas, goals, and vision without external influence.
How the Cardross & Ardoch Local Place Plan Benefits You?
Through this Local Place Plan, you have the power to impact key areas of Cardross's future, including:
Land Use and Development: Shaping sustainable development aligned with our community’s goals.
Transportation and Accessibility: Addressing local transportation needs and creating a connected Cardross.
Housing and Community Spaces: Building residential options and spaces that enhance village life.
Environmental Stewardship: Preserving and improving the natural beauty and ecological health of our area, whilst increasing the ability of our land and coastal area to absorb carbon to help us transition to net zero community.
Make Your Voice Count!
Creating the Cardross & Ardoch Local Place Plan is as much about the process as the outcome. Through a survey and focus groups, we’re gathering diverse perspectives to ensure the plan reflects the entire community. This grassroots approach means that every resident’s voice is not only heard but plays a role in shaping our village’s future.
Be Part of Cardross’s Future!
Once completed, the Cardross & Ardoch Local Place Plan will be a vital tool in discussions with local authorities and developers, providing a clear, community-backed vision that guides future projects. By participating, you help ensure that upcoming changes reflect what we, the residents, truly want for Cardross.
“this is not a council written document, it is prepared by Cardross & Ardoch residents so that we can control our future.”

Local Place Plan - Drafting
The local place plan is currently being shaped and refined, incorporating the valuable feedback we’ve received from our extensive community engagement efforts. This process aims to ensure that the voices of our residents are truly reflected in the development of our beloved village.

Learn more about the tools we are using…
The Place Standard Tool
The Place Standard tool lets communities, public agencies, voluntary groups and others find those aspects of a place that need to be targeted to improve people’s health, wellbeing and quality of life. It provides a simple framework to structure conversations about place and community using the following 14 themes: moving around, public transport, traffic and parking, streets and spaces, natural space, play and recreation, facilities and amenities, work and local economy, housing and community, social interaction, identity and belonging, feeling safe, care and maintenance, and influence and sense of control. The tool has been built jointly by NHS Health Scotland, the Scottish Government and Architecture & Design Scotland.
Place Standard with a climate lens
As a community we have been affected by flooding in the past. Scientific findings tell us that our local area is going to become wetter and hotter due to the impacts of climate change. This survey will influence what we would like the council to take into account when planning for the next 10 years. We need to consider the impacts of climate change to ask the right questions for our community, therefore we are using the Place Standard with the Climate lens to assess how the community would like to mitigate and adapt to our changing climate.
